Jerome Bailey - Hofstra Men’s Basketball Power Forward Greg Washington is in the midst of a successful junior season that has seen him become the school’s all-time leader in blocked shots. Washington’s success at Hofstra is the culmination of many years competing in multiple sports and the Centereach native can thank his mother, Corine, for the decision to concentrate on basketball while motivating him to be a defensive force for a Division I program just 35 miles from where he grew up.

Andrew Coen - The 2010 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) season may be five months away, but the Long Island Lizards continue to have an active off-season from personnel moves to season ticket offerings and even had time to spread some holiday cheer by conducting charitable events in the community. Chris Vaccaro is an award-winning journalist, author, and researcher from Holtsville, who since graduating from Hofstra University in 2007, has authored three books on Long Island sports.  His most recent book entitled “Long Island High School Sports” from Arcadia Publishing, strings together a pictorial history of the region’s oldest, most famous, and well-respected teams, coaches, and athletes. Vaccaro, who has written for more than 40 publications, spent some time with the Long Island Sports Report's Andrew Coen to discuss his latest book, his passion for Long Island sports, and what makes the region’s athletic culture very unique.

Andrew Coen - The St. John’s University Women’s Basketball Team has high expectations for the 2009/2010 season and beyond thanks in part to a five-member freshman class ranked 15th in the nation by ESPN.com and Blue Star Basketball.  One of these talented newcomers to the Red Storm Women’s Basketball Program is North Babylon High School Graduate Eugeneia McPherson and St. John’s Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico is expecting big things from the native Long Islander.

Long Island Trio Lifts St. John’s Women’s Soccer To Its First NCAA Appearance

Andrew Coen - After completing her sophomore season at Duke in 2007, Holtsville native C.J. Ludemann decided to find a new collegiate soccer home.  She was eventually drawn to explore St. John’s, due in large part to the encouragement of two Long Island friends, who happened to be playing for the St. John’s Women’s Soccer Program.  Luckily for the Red Storm, Ludemann listened to the advice of her former youth soccer teammates, Tara Mendoza and Courtney Lane and took her soccer prowess to the Queens campus.  Now, the three Long Islanders have become a key factor for the Red Storm’s 15-Member Senior Class’ first ever NCAA College Cup run.
